One of the saddest things that I hear is someone saying that they are not dating, it’s too hard, I can’t be bothered with it
We have wrapped dating and online dating so tightly together that people are checking out of dating completely rather than overcome any negativity around online dating.
If you want to find someone to build a life with then you need to date. You don’t have to do online dating, but then you will have to work a little harder to get yourself out to events and situations where you can meet someone in real life.
Ultimately online dating is just a tool, that opens up a pool of people that you would otherwise never meet.
Used with the right mindset Online Dating can be a great way to meet people in real life.
Whatever you believe to be true will come true . This is a cognitive bias, called confirmation bias… basically it means that you will find things to prove yourself right.
If you believe that online dating won't work for you, it won’t.
If you think that there is no one out there for you, you will be too blinkered to see the people that come your way.
If you believe that there are no good people on dating apps, you will find fault in all your matches.
Often these negative beliefs around dating can be masking deeper beliefs; perhaps that you are not worthing of a great relationship. Fear around relationships keeping you on the edges, never really being truly open and willing to take a chance on love.

Getting drawn into lengthy messaging back and forth, trying to work out if there is a spark there before meeting them. Spoiler alert… you can not work out if there is a spark, connection, chemistry with someone via a few pictures and some messages.
Viewing online dating a bit like social media, the more likes you are getting the better you are doing. You are only looking for one person 😉
Spending too much time on each profile, every second you spend on someone’s profile you are allowing yourself to imagine a future with that person, or finding reasons not to… this is way too much emotional investment up front, into someone who odds are you won’t meet.
Using dating apps like candy crush, popping in anytime you are bored or using it to distract yourself any time uncomfortable feelings about being single come up.

Strip away all the noise and bringing the focus back to you; getting clear on what you want, believing that you will achieve your relationship goals and engaging with dating positively.
Back to confirmation bias, turn this to your advantage and cultivate an unshakable belief that you are meant to be with someone and that you will find that someone.
Take a moment to think of all the things that you have achieved in your life so far, all that you have overcome, all that you do to look after the people in your life….
Now tell me, will being with you make someone’s life better?
Hell yes it will!
Keep your focus on the end outcome, finding someone to have a relationship with rather than focusing on the negatives of the online dating experience.
Get your mindset right and date with intention when dating online.

Be clear about what you want and don’t be afraid to put that on your profile.
Don't make your online profile a list of what you don't want, rather paint a picture of what you would like to have in a relationship. Not a checklist of superficial qualities but rather the essence of what you hope to build with someone.
This will stand out as a positive and inviting profile that people will want to connect with.
Remind yourself that you are on the app to find one person.
It is easy to get sucked into thinking that the more likes we get the more desirable we are. However if we are looking for a long term relationship we actually just want to find one person!
It is actually better if we attract fewer matches that are genuinely going to have a chance of connection with.
Don't try to be all things to all people, ensure your profile shows the true you so you can attract people who you have a chance of a genuine connection with.
Remember that the app is a tool to meet someone in person.
Consider it as a lead generation funnel, your aim is to put as many people into the net as possible at that initial matching stage.
If it is a match you can then go back through the profile and decide if you want to progress to messaging them.
Limit your emotional engagement until you meet in person. No getting wildly excited about someone, telling friends about them before you have ever met. Manage your expectations, rather than building someone up on to a pedestal simply allow your curiosity to be peaked. No being gutted when someone stops messaging, they weren't the one for you.
Making quick decisions enables you to tune into your gut reaction before your brain can jump in and start rationalising (which lets be honest we can all talk ourselves into either side of an argument)
Use the 1 second swipe strategy; that is make your yes/no decision on the first picture (it should be their best) within one second.
Quick decisions save you from wasting time imagining a date or a life with someone you may never meet.
It also stops the oh why didn’t that person match with me feelings, as you won’t have spent long enough on their profile to remember them!
Aim to move the messaging along to arranging a Pre-Date as soon as possible.
The longer the messaging goes along the more we create a fantasy around the person that they may never be able to live up to. It also gives us a chance to find excuses not to meet them.
(Asking for an in-person meeting will also shake out the catfishers who may be trying to lure you in with romantic messaging to then scam you.)
Don't be afraid to ask someone to meet for a casual coffee, a walk or a quick drink. You don't have to wait for them to ask!
Don’t be afraid of rejection. You may connect with 100 people to find that one person, you will reject some, some will reject you.
It is just part of the process.
Don't over think it trying to find a reason why, or worse still using it as evidence for whatever negative story you want to tell yourself. It wasn't the person for you, on to the next!
